Tracing the Growth of the World’s First Online Study Suite
1995–1996Founding & Initial Launch
The vision for Blue Letter Bible began in late 1995 with the goal of using the \"World Wide Web\" to make in-depth study tools available for free. The site officially went live in March 1996 as Version 1.0, featuring the KJV, a lexicon, a concordance, and a small commentary library.
2000–2008The Iconic "Six Buttons" & BLB Classic
In 2000, Version 2.0 introduced the signature six-button interface (K, C, L, I, V, D) that remains a favorite for linking verses to lexicons and commentaries. This era also saw the 2004 launch of the Blue Letter Bible Institute and the 2008 "Version 2.5" backend overhaul, now known as "BLB Classic."
2011–2019Mobile Expansion & Academic Partnerships
As browsing habits shifted, the ministry launched iOS and Android apps (2011 and 2015) and debuted the modern Version 3.0 website in 2013. In 2019, the Blue Letter Bible Institute rebranded as Study.Bible and formed a partnership with Lancaster Bible College to offer accredited course pathways.

Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, Blue Letter Bible serves over 40 million users annually across the globe. It continues to innovate with advanced free resources like ScriptureMark for digital block diagramming, while maintaining its original commitment to keeping high-level study tools free for everyone.
